WebPerf.cz Meetups

The mission of PageSpeed.ONE is to accelerate websites for users. We strive to achieve this through speed consulting and our monitoring tool.
Naturally, we understand that we can't undertake this acceleration alone. That's why we've established the WebPerf.cz community and have already organized two meetups this year—one in Prague and another in Bratislava.
Join us for a recap of these successful events.
WebPerf.cz #1
(Prague, Alma Career, March 21, 2024)
At the first-ever meetup for fans of fast websites, we filled the space at Prague's Alma Career.
What was the buzz in Prague?
Webperf News (Michal Matuška)
- The new INP metric is replacing FID.
- Performance Inequality Gap.
- Long Animation Frames API (LoAF).
Web Font Optimization (Aleš Roubíček)
- Use the font-display property.
- Don't forget to fall back to local fonts.
- The unicode-range property allows filtering specific character downloads.
- Variable fonts are efficient in terms of data volume.
- Do subsetting to limit font size.
- Use a modern stack based on system fonts.
Performance Culture (Martin Michálek)
- Performance Culture = the company's approach to achieving a faster web.
- Who's responsible for a slow website? Usually management.
- Where do you stand in the Web Performance Maturity Model?
- What's most crucial? Speed must be managed as a project, with dedicated budget and time.

WebPerf.cz #2
(Bratislava, ESET, May 22, 2024)
The second meetup for speed enthusiasts took place in the beautiful surroundings of Bratislava's ESET:
Fixing Developer Experience: Vite and Performance Optimization (Milan Holeš)
- Speed can also be about the developer's compile time.
- Vite.js is incredibly fast, so why is it sometimes slow?
- How to improve speed?
- Beware of "barrel files".
React App Hydration: Key to Optimizing INP (Michal Matuška)
- What is the INP metric and how is it measured?
- How does hydration work in React? Render/commit phases.
- Components + HTML + data = hydration.
- How does hydration affect INP?
- How to optimize? Watch out for a large DOM, lazy loading, React.lazy(), concurrent rendering, Suspense.
How Web Performance Improves Online Campaign Results (Vladimír Cintula)
- A few milliseconds can impact UX.
- Higher speed = lower cost per click in PPC.
- Ad Rank = CPC bid * Quality Score (speed is a component).
- Riešenia measured 25 of their e-commerce projects.
- Each second of load delay increases bounce rate by 3.61%.
- Each second of load delay worsens conversion rate by 0.4%.
Web Performance and SEO (Tomáš Ďurovič)
- What are the crucial speed metrics for SEO.
- John Mueller from Google says green metrics are a maximum boost, orange depending on value, red offers no boost.
- Speed is certainly not one of the top ranking factors.
- Server response time, TTFB, is also important for SEO.
- Speed can also affect brand perception and willingness to return (dwell time).
- Important content must always be available in the source code. Search engine bots do not click or scroll.
- Megamenu is important for internal linking.
- It's crucial to have indexed images, so do not insert links to them using JS.
Two meetups and so much knowledge! And on top of that… so many interesting conversations during networking.
We are thrilled to be part of this new community's inception.
What's Next?
- We are planning another meetup in Prague this fall.
- Want to be the first to know about our events? Follow us on Meetup.com.
- All videos from future events will be available on our YouTube channel.
- The community also has its own emerging Slack.
