Release of PageSpeed.ONE Speed Monitoring Version 4.4: Navigation Types, New Test Setup, and a Trove of Help

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of version 4.4 of our web speed monitoring.

We've put a lot (and we do mean a lot) of effort into enhancing the help section. We've also automated the launch of monitoring PLUS. But the main update is sure to please anyone who appreciates truly fast websites.

Navigation Types Arrive in PageSpeed.ONE Monitoring

Fast loading is nice, but how about instant loading? “Wait, can a page really load instantly?” Let us enlighten you.

For some time now, browsers have been able to leverage their own caching capabilities to load pages instantly. The possibilities include:

  • Back/forward cache (BFcache) – loading from cache for navigation history movement.
  • Browser cache loading – the request doesn’t hit your server at all.
  • Prerender – preloading the page during the stay on the previous page, for instance, using Speculation Rules API.

For several weeks, Google has been providing data on the distribution of different Navigation Types in its Chrome UX Report. Starting with version 4.4, we’re making them available in the Domains report.

Here's what it looks like:

Development of different types of navigation on the web The development of different navigation types on Mall.cz. As you can see, fast navigation types occur in only a small percentage of page views.

We believe this new report will encourage you to work on optimizing for instant page display. We’ll certainly be writing more about Navigation Types in our help section.

Automated Setup of New PLUS Monitoring with Ease

We've been striving to make setting up new monitoring as pleasant and smooth as possible, even though the initial web speed testing takes some time.

We’re pleased to announce that as of version 4.4, you can set up monitoring PLUS almost as easily as the free tests. Simply set up monitoring PLUS yourself now.

The cost for PLUS tests is 5,148 CZK per year per website. We now also offer a three-month money-back guarantee, so you can try speed monitoring risk-free.

Check out the pricing list for more details.

We’ve also prepared a loading screen that indicates the progress of testing when setting up monitoring PLUS and even free tests:

User Data (CrUX) Always Take Precedence

Another change is the prioritization of Google user data (Chrome UX Report, CrUX) in the Pages report.

User data is generally available for our PLUS customers and is far more important for long-term monitoring than synthetic data.

CrUX data is now higher in the Pages report Onward with CrUX! You’ll now find this data at the top of the Pages report. Simply because it matters.

Free tests do not currently include CrUX data for specific pages, as they are often used to test very small websites for which Google simply doesn't have data. We always recommend PLUS tests to professionals.

Confused? Read about the difference between CrUX and synthetic data.
