The goal of PageSpeed.ONE is to accelerate websites for users. We strive to achieve this through speed consultancy and our monitoring tool.

Naturally, we know we can't speed things up alone. That's why we established the WebPerf.cz community and have already organised two meetups this year, one in Prague and one in Bratislava.

Webperf News (Michal Matuška)#

• The new INP metric replaces FID.
• Performance Inequality Gap.
• Long Animation Frames API (LoAF).

Optimising Web Fonts (Aleš Roubíček)#

• Use the font-display property.
• Don't forget the fallback to local fonts.
• The unicode-range property allows filtering the download of specific characters.
• Variable fonts are efficient in terms of data volume.
• Perform subsetting to limit font size.
• Use a modern stack based on system fonts.

Performance Culture (Martin Michálek)#

• Performance Culture = the way a company is organised, aiming for a faster web.
• Who is responsible for a slow website? Usually, it's management.
• Where do you stand in the Web Performance Maturity Model?
• What's most important? That speed is managed as a project and receives funding and time.
• What arguments work? The impact of speed on conversions.

Fixing Developer Experience: Vite and Performance Optimisation (Milan Holeš)#

• Speed can also be about the developer's compilation speed.
• Vite.js is very fast, so why is it sometimes slow?
• How to proceed to improve speed?
• Beware of "barrel files".

Hydrating React Apps: The Key to INP Optimisation (Michal Matuška)#

• What is the INP metric and how is it measured?
• How does hydration work in React? Render/commit phases.
• Components + HTML + data = hydration.
• What impact does hydration have on INP?
• How to optimise? Watch out for a large DOM, lazy loading, React.lazy(), concurrent rendering, Suspense.

How Web Performance Improves Online Campaign Results (Vladimír Cintula)#

• A few milliseconds can affect UX.
• Higher speed = lower cost per click in PPC.
• Ad Rank = CPC bid * Quality Score (speed is a component).
• In Riešenia, they measured 25 of their e-commerce projects.
• Every second delay in loading increases the bounce rate by 3.61%.
• Every second delay in loading worsens the conversion rate by 0.4%.

Web Performance and SEO (Tomáš Ďurovič)#

• What are the important speed metrics for SEO?
• John Mueller from Google says green metrics provide maximum boost, orange based on value, red no boost.
• Speed is certainly not one of the top ranking factors.
• Server response speed, TTFB, is also important for SEO.
• Speed can influence brand perception or willingness to return (dwell time).
• Important content must always be available in the source code. Search engine bots don't click or scroll.
• Megamenu is crucial for internal linking.
• It's important to have images indexed, so don't insert links to them using JS.

Two meetups and so much knowledge! And moreover... so many interesting conversations during networking.
