Our Achievements: Successful Speed Optimisations and New Clients in 2022
The year 2022 was a dynamic beginning for PageSpeed.ONE. We ramped up our consultancy services focused on web speed optimisation and developed our own speed tester. We also expanded into a four-member team – alongside myself, Michal, and Zuzka, we welcomed Radek.
Most importantly, we genuinely helped many clients increase their website speed. We also delved into the increasingly crucial topic of speed culture.
Selected Speed Optimisations
Sometimes it happens quickly, sometimes not so. But we know for certain that if speed is a priority for the client and communication goes smoothly, results invariably follow. I've highlighted three of the most intriguing cases.
Dr. Max: Optimising CLS and LCP
We've been collaborating with Dr. Max Group on accelerating their pharmaceutical e-shops since 2021. We developed our audit for the team around Peter Varga, which successfully improved the Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) metric:

We primarily focused on optimising the display of personalised content, which is handled by the Persoo component on the e-shops. The client then concentrated on improving the backend, specifically the TTFB metric, based on our recommendations:

The current Core Web Vitals metrics for all sites are splendid…

Our optimisation journey with Dr. Max is far from over. Up next is analysing the impact of speed on conversions, strengthening Performance Culture, and further technical metric optimisations.
By the way, would you like the same dashboard as Dr. Max? In our tester, you can create it for free.
Sazka: Continuing a Four-Year Collaboration, Approaching a Happy Ending
Sazka is one of my longest-standing clients, with our collaboration beginning in 2018. Since last year, we've been working together under the PageSpeed.ONE brand.
In large enterprises like this, speed optimisation is more about building a “Performance Culture”. Thanks to the tremendous support from Martin Kocourek at Sazka and their developers, we made significant strides with speed last year:

We're nearly at our goal – “green Web Vitals” for the entire domain. Despite attempts by various third-party component vendors to derail our efforts last year. But that's a story for another time.
Goldea: Optimising CLS
Our client MIONET in Zlín runs a network of home textiles e-shops under the Goldea brand. They approached us to optimise Core Web Vitals, particularly the Cumulative Layout Shift metric in their case.
Optimising CLS on mobiles was straightforward – minor tweaks to HTML and CSS code, and a bit of fine-tuning for AJAX pagination, which can be a speed nuisance.
For the desktop version, things got a bit trickier. The unwanted page jump was mostly problematic during product list filtering:

… but we managed to handle that as well:

In this collaboration, we learned a lot about the CLS metric, its specifics, and its drawbacks. You can certainly expect a more detailed case study from us soon.
Last year, we also made appearances at several conferences, notably our talk and discussion at WebExpo.
Performance Culture: Building a Speed Culture in Organisations
A growing part of our work falls into the realm of Performance Culture, where we assist clients with internal processes to ensure speed improvements continue even without our intensive involvement.
Here are three examples of this type of collaboration from last year:
- For HP Tronic, specifically the Datart websites, we conducted a speed audit, provided training for non-technical staff, and used SpeedCurve RUM to find correlations between business and speed metrics. Now we know which metrics to focus on primarily, making it easier to prioritise optimisations.
- At Sazka, besides the usual optimisations mentioned above, we conducted workshops for developers last year. The aim was to transfer as much of our knowledge as possible to the technical staff so they could handle many issues independently. During the workshops, we also jointly set additional optimisation goals. The workshops were very successful, helping Sazka achieve the current speed level of their website.
- For Dr. Max Group, we prepared online training for developers and discussed speed at their successful internal conference:

With most clients, we work on a long-term basis through our SpeedCare supervision service. We regularly meet with the client's team, educate them, actively monitor metrics, and propose simple technical optimisations.
We can assist both small and large projects, and we have time for yours too. Do not hesitate to reach out.
Wishing you success in 2023, and not just in web speed!
