Winners of the PageSpeed.ONE Awards 2025: jrc.cz and woox.sk

Web speed is not a technical detail but a crucial business topic. At PageSpeed.ONE, we help dozens of websites each year achieve higher speeds and a more pleasant user experience.

In 2023 and 2024, we searched for the fastest Czech e-shop. This year, we broaden the concept into the PageSpeed.ONE Awards, celebrating Czech and Slovak websites across various categories.

Before we delve into the evaluations and results, let's discuss why speed remains crucial and whether its significance is changing in the current context.

Why focus on speed in 2025? Market demands are evolving, and AI is starting to exert its influence#

Faster websites tend to have better conversions, attract more visitors through SEO, and help save on PPC advertising.

Take, for instance, the e-shop deNatura, which, thanks to speed improvements at PageSpeed.ONE, gained 17% more visitors from Google.

Is speed still a topic in 2025, when we have fast connections and people use fast devices? Yes, indeed. Most websites are struggling to meet the ever-stricter market demands.

1. User expectations are rising.
   The patience of Generation Z and younger is counted in mere seconds or even hundreds of milliseconds.
2. Web technologies are convenient for developers but slower for users.
   The widespread shift to client-side rendering, sparked by frameworks like React, "enriches" websites with loads of JavaScript, which on less capable devices is very slow.
3. The gap between devices is growing.
   You probably have a high-end mobile in your pocket, but try using your websites on a device that costs 5,000 CZK. You'll be surprised at how poorly they perform.

Speed and stability are crucial, especially in the era of AI#

This year, we've observed a sharp increase in robotic traffic among our clients. AI bots burden servers as much as real users, but unlike them, they (so far) don't make purchases or provide much value.

For example, at PageSpeed.ONE, we recorded four million queries from the USA for a successful Czech e-shop over seven days, 90% of which were from Meta's AI indexer. Sometimes, bots do get rather carried away.

They often cause overloads precisely when you need your website the most.

How did we select the PageSpeed.ONE Awards this year?#

Compared to previous years (2023 and 2024), we've made several changes this year:

1. More categories added.
   This year, alongside e-shops, content sites, corporate sites, and others competed.
2. Competition in Slovakia as well.
   For the first time, we selected the fastest websites not only in the Czech Republic but also in Slovakia.
3. You could submit your projects.
   Previously, we selected websites ourselves; this year, you could submit your own projects. We evaluated each website running with monitoring PLUS.
4. Websites were compared using a new speed score (SPS).
   The new overall website speed score (PageSpeed.ONE score) operates on different principles. For example, it considers the distribution of metric values among users, in addition to their states.

We evaluated the websites using data from November 28, 2025, and we were genuinely curious about the results. Now, we can proceed to announce them.

PageSpeed.ONE Awards for the Czech Republic: the winner is JRC.cz#

Websites crafted by the Smarty.cz team are renowned for their phenomenal speed. Following last year's victory by iWant.cz, this year, JRC.cz takes the top spot in the Czech Republic, with the main brand site, Smarty.cz, in third place.

What can be learned from the JRC website?#

• Performance starts at the backend. JRC.cz websites boast excellent server response times. The TTFB metric value of 0.24 s is outstanding for a relatively large e-shop. Additionally, stability is evident even during the ongoing Black Friday period. Splendid work!
• Well-optimized frontend. The LCP metric (Largest Contentful Paint) on mobile is 0.69 s, meaning the frontend delivers content in a commendable 450 ms. This is aided by classic data optimization – for instance, the HTML of a product page is a mere 15 kB, CSS is 19 kB, and JS is around 300 kB.
• JRC.cz also makes excellent use of modern optimization techniques – from Back/Forward Cache to images in WebP format and the use of lazy loading.
• Old-school server technology. The fact that Smarty doesn't employ React or other modern frontend tricks allows them to reduce optimization costs.

The top three in the e-commerce category for the Czech Republic closely mirrors the overall ranking. It’s evident that those in e-commerce know that speed translates to conversions.

E-commerce Rising Star#

Since we previously announced the fastest e-shop in the Czech Republic, we have data from long-term rankings. The e-shop that moved up the most positions in the rankings from 2024 to 2025 is Grizly.cz. While it still has some way to go to match the speed of the best, it moved up 26 positions in the rankings.

PageSpeed.ONE Awards for Slovakia: the winner is WOOX.sk#

For the first time, we're selecting the fastest websites in Slovakia. The PageSpeed.ONE Awards go to WOOX.sk and the agency mime digital. A round of applause, please!

WOOX.sk is a practical example of what we've been saying for a long time. Websites on out-of-the-box solutions can achieve top-notch performance.

The Slovak WOOX is built on the Shoptet platform, which we've been talking about, collaborating on optimizing, and for some time now, Shoptet optimization has been among our services. How does this website achieve its results?

• Outstanding backend response.
  If there's one thing Shoptet delivers, it's the TTFB metric value across all its 40,000 e-shops. For WOOX.sk, it's 0.36 s on mobile.

Congratulations to all winners and honorees in the PageSpeed.ONE Awards! What can all web developers take away from the competition? After analyzing this year's results and considering our experience in optimizing clients' websites at PageSpeed.ONE, we've prepared a few recommendations for you.

Effective optimizations for improving website speed#

1. Keep an eye on the backend. This year, we've started focusing on the TTFB metric, the backend response speed, during optimizations. A slow backend negatively impacts user experience across all Core Web Vitals metrics. This year, we see how unpreparedness for fluctuations caused by Black Friday or AI bots damages many businesses.
2. Watch out for slow interactions. Another big topic this year is INP optimization, the response speed to interactions. We help clients optimize JavaScript both with developers, but analytics and specifically the setup of GTM is becoming a crucial topic.
3. Implement lazy loading correctly. This simple optimization for loading speed (LCP) still causes headaches because simple things can be all too easily botched. Developers, ensure you truly understand the principle of lazy loading and verify it.
4. Back/forward cache. How to improve user experience so your boss notices? “Enable” BFcache on your website.
5. Go with Cloudflare. Yes, a recent outage of this popular service was a bit of a hiccup for all of us. However, when compared to how Cloudflare can assist with speed, stability, or security, the balance is decidedly positive. We now offer assistance with Cloudflare as well.
6. Implement WebP images. And a classic to conclude. We still encounter websites that haven’t taken advantage of this relatively easy speed boost. Are you still using old-fashioned JPEG images? Implement WebP, it almost always helps significantly and visibly speeds up the site.
